š¦ STAY FRESH š
It's an OPEN RP POST for all characters from Nintendo's Splatoon series! Any character and any iteration of canon are welcome, as are OCs. Multiples of characters are A-OK! You don't need to know me (Carrie) to play, either. Absolutely everyone is welcome and you're encouraged to share this post around! There's no expiration date on it, either, so feel free to stop by whenever and generally take your time with tags.
These absolutely aren't mandatory, but if you'd like a starting off point, here are some (really simple because look writing this takes a lot of effort okay) ideas and set pieces:
HANGIN' IN THE HUB
There's plenty to do in the various hub areas throughout Inkopolis! Visit a food truck, play tableturf with one another, compare weapons or try on some new clothes!
THE SHOAL
Does anyone actually do local multiplayer? A popular amusement venue - come play some games! Arcade games, dance games, crane games. We've got ya covered!
TURF WAR ET AL
I don't know if any of you are mad lads enough to RP an actual match (of any mode, not just turf!) but if you wanted to do a little vignette during one that might be fun! DRAMA, SUSPENSE, SPLATS!
AFTER A MATCH
GG! Did your team manage a win, or was it a crushing defeat? You and your teammates or the opposing team are hanging out after a turf war (or other mode of your choice.)
SALMON RUN
Part time work for fun(?) and profit! Work together and get! The Eggs! In the Basket!
SPLATFEST
It's party time! Are you enjoying the music? Are you one of the ones performing it? Or are you just debating with someone over which team is clearly superior??
WILDCARD
I'm not the cops. The sky is the limit so long as you're stayin' fresh. Maybe I'll add more prompts later.
1. Drop a toplevel with your character's name. You can do blank TLs if you wish but a starter of some sort or what you're looking to play might not hurt!
2. Tag around other people!
3. Have fun and be excellent to one another!!
Agent 8 | OTA
[Life on the surface is pretty boring.
But Eight...kind of likes boring?
Itās better than the rank and file life of being a Octarian soldier and itās WAY better than fighting for his life underground. Compared to that, filling up his days with shoe shopping and crusty Seanwiches feels like heaven.
He even tends to sit on the side of the table that isnāt shaded by buildings or umbrellas. Heās got a lot of time in the sun to make up for. Sun and smoothies. Later on heās going to go help Sheldon with a shipment of Brellas, but for now itās a chill day for Eight and his companion
whoever it is.What are they gonna do today?]
2. After a Match
[That was a shell of a Clam Blitz game. Eight will have to look at the tape later, but heās pretty sure he broke his personal record for most Power Clams made.
Heās feeling good, really good. Heās ready to go again, just as soon as he re-wraps his ankles, reties his shoelaces, wipes the sweat off his hands so his gloves donāt slip, and check his weapon for jams and...safety first, but heās kind of holding up the next match.]
3. Splatfest
[OK, hereās the thing: Eight knows Off the Hook. Heās close with both of them. He has their numbers in his phone, he talks new fashion with Pearl, he works with Marina on tech. Heās their personal friend.
So Splatfests come around, he knows theyāll both know what team he was on. And what team he wasnāt on.
And itās kind of like picking between his own sisters.
Which is why heās been holding up the t-shirt line for the last ten minutes.]
Uh...are you sure there isnāt a third team I can be onā¦?
[Donāt they do that in the Splatlands? Yeah, too bad heās so shy, because he needs help...]
4. Wildcard
[Eight wants to try just about everything, heās up for whatever!]
1~
[They are half deep into a Seanwich and a smoothie as they look out to the other kids mingling. Just a normal lazy day, but considering where they came from it was all the more remarkable.]
So, this is what you do all day. Get lost in a crowd and spend a half hour listening to a clam.
no subject
Heheh...it's quite an adjustment, huh? When I got settled in I had so much free time I just...didn't know what to do with myself. I was so shocked I almost went back to doing Octarian training drills just so I could structure my day.
[Of course, Pearl, Marina, Cuttlefish and his roommate Four had done so much to show him how vastly, overwhelmingly big the world really was. It feels good to do that for someone else, but he and Acht are very different people. He'd like not overwhelm them beyond what was necessary.]
How are you holding up so far?
no subject
What, are you suggesting that I can't handle it? I'm an Elite Octoling too, you know. [Former. But still. Despite their words there was no annoyance. Just the usual Octarian pride which they are sure Eight would be able to see through.]
[A hand raises to their lips to get a small dribble of smoothy from the corner of their mouth before popping that in too.]
Yeah. "Do this. Go there. Eat now. Splat now. Go to sleep." You get wound up so tight you start to think they'll expect you to salute on the latrine. [Subtly, their eye shades drift toward the blended smoothie.] ...Kamabo Co. was worse, though.
no subject
He smiles playfully.]
No, just asking for a status report. We are behind enemy lines, after all.
[...It's easy to forget he's an expat, but Kamabo has been fresh in his mind for so long he's starting to wonder if it'll ever really fade. His gaze drifts to the side, looking at the people around them. Nobody really knows the full extent of what happened down there except the small circle he's now sharing with Acht, do they? After a moment he turns his attention back to them.]
Did I ever tell you...I think I heard your music? During the tests in the metro?
no subject
[Not like their squad mates and definitely not like their mutual friend. A part of the joke was that they had any pride as an Elite at all, but that was mostly for themselves.]
[They pause noticeably at the mention of listening to their music and leans in towards, as though waiting to hear praise or perhaps more likely, condemnation.] Ah... no... you didn't...
...it's hardly surprising... I think I heard a researcher once say that it helped keep subconscious memories from surfacing... ...or something. I'm not really a scientist.
Did you... uh... ...no, never mind...
no subject
And when Acht brings up that fact about subconscious memories, it touches his own. His eyes go wide.]
That...I guess that makes sense. If the wanted to use my memories to string me along, they'd want to make sure I couldn't recover them on my own...
[Every detail he uncovers about Kamabo makes it worse somehow. Tartar is the closest Eight ever comes to feeling glad he killed someone. He takes a deep breath to center himself.]
The stations were tough...I never had much time to listen. But sometimes when I was taking a breather before the next section I would hear your music and it would make me feel...
I dunno. Sad, I guess. Like I knew someone else was out there but I couldn't help.
no subject
[The smirk a little hoping that will obfuscate things a little.]
It helps you overcome the challenges of the stations. And reach the top of Spire of Order. And do all those other suicidal and miraculous things you set your mind to.
Makes escorting around a delinquent DJ seem like a step down when you think about it.
no subject
...No, he's definitely touched.]
You know, I wasn't a very good soldier either.
[He doesn't have that dogfish in him, doesn't have that desire to fight and kill and conquer, and the army never managed to instill it in him either.
He has thought about it, and he just shakes his head and sips his own smoothie to try and push down the lump in his throat.]
Step down? No way. There's nothing easy about helping a friend change their life. Ask...geeze, anyone who knew me when I first got to the surface. [Acht already has a way better grasp of the language, for one.]
no subject
I find that surprising. Truly. Palettes corresponded to another person's soul. The fact that you were able to use them shows your adaptability to another person's way of doing things. [...and willingness to accept others too, they think. It all comes around to Eight being someone exceptional, even if he didn't know it.]
But, alright, spill: what would you be doing now if you weren't dragging around my useless bass around? Gainful employment?
no subject
I...can't know what it was like to be completely sanitized, but...when I woke up in that metro with all my memories gone, I just felt so...lost. When I started clearing Kamabo's trials, I felt like the most important thing was to pass all their trials and get them back, nothing else mattered. [He knows now that was all by design. If they didn't have something to pull him by his nose with he might have just had Marina hack the whole thing.]
But when they took my memories, they also took everything I've ever been told about Octarian pride and all that nasty propaganda about squids. And as I recovered my mem cakes, I also got to know Cuttlefish and Pearl and learned how Marina built a new life on the surface alongside Inklings.
[Deep breath.] In the process, I guess I just I stopped being able to relate to the person I was, if that makes sense? That person was the ideal Octarian, diligent and dedicated, probably would have saluted on the latrine if he'd been asked. I remember him now, but...he doesn't feel like me. He feels more like...an imaginary friend I've grown out of. Maybe I needed him once, but not anymore. It's why I still go by Eight even though I remember my old name.
[That was heavy. Time to lighten things up.]
I mean, I could go help my roommate with their Salmon Run shift, They always say I'm better with Chargers than they are. I could go see if anyone wants to join me in a pick-up game of Turf War. I think I'm getting pretty good at the games at the Shoal, I could go practice some more. Or I could just...sit outside and enjoy the sun. Honestly, I don't even know what I'd choose.
no subject
Feel better? [Their tone is flat and even, though hidden within the pause is an awkwardness that wants to come out and bare something deep and dark. Maybe... maybe someday.] That's a lot of words to say you figured out who you are, Eight. You're Eight. And that is enough.
[They lean in, clawed fingers reaching for the drink for a shlorp. They listen to what he does with their day.] Sounds ordinary.
no subject
[For the moment, he's talked out. Acht is so hard to read, he's still getting to know them, and he's not sure if he overshared or not, but...it sort of sounds like they're wrestling with something?]
But it's nice to get to choose to be ordinary. What about you? Do you...think you know what you'll choose yet?
no subject
squiddokiddo, they're a bit too insecure to spill the beans. And someone needs to try to be the adult here.]Being ordinary is so real. After everything it's nice to just vibe.
[They look up at the nice umbrella before their combing the area for the squids and octos nearby. Yup. Still there. Minding their own business and talking without a care in the world.] I think I'll just vibe for a bit. Check out the underground scene. Maybe set a mobile turn table for anyone who'll listen.
Huh. Listening sounds good too. Lots of new sounds up here. Fresh tones. Maybe I'll even catch a match or two. Hear the sound of victory, or the rhthmic putt-putt of an Aerospray MG.
...maybe check in on my friends. You know, after hours. Don't want to attract too many eyes. I hear one of them likes sunbathing. Might check that guy out. See that he's not saving the world again or smthn.
no subject
But it's a big world. There's room for all. Acht will find their place in it.
Maybe everyone else will too.
Eight takes another bite of Seanwich, and a sip of smoothie before a chuckle escapes him.]
He'd like that. Though hopefully his world-saving days are behind him. But...if they aren't, I'm sure he'd be happy to have you along. Someone has to keep Pearl and Marina on track.
3
Hey hey, whoās this holding up the lineā?!
[She claps him on the back with a wide grin.]
Cāmon, Eight, you just gotta go with your heart! āRina and I wonāt take it personal!
[ā¦You canāt help but feel thereās an unspoken āprobably!ā at the end of that sentence.]
no subject
...Well, mostly. Pearl hits hard for a squid of her size and her clap knocks air out of his chest with a whoof. Still, he offers her a sheepish smile. Choosing for himself is a skill he never had practice in for the first 14 years of his life, it's a little embarrassing when he struggles with it.]
Are you sure? I never like to think I'm letting either of you down...
no subject
ā¦Only way youād let us down is by not having fun out there. Thatās what Splatfests are all about! Of course having you as a teammate would rule, but squaring off against you would be a blast too!
[A beat.] Not that I really get to participate in the action. My hands are pretty tied there, heh. Thatās for the best, though: if they let me loose during a fest, itād be straight up unfair to the other team!
[She says it with such self-assurance it almost sounds true. ]
no subject
[Eight believes it wholeheartedly, is the thing. He looks up to Marina and Marina admires Pearl so much...that can only mean Pearl is the best to ever do it. There's straight up no way she can't mop the floor with anyone she goes up against. It's not possible.
He hums thoughtfully...and chooses.
Marina's team.]
If that changes, her team needs all the help they can get, right?
[He gets his shirt, says thank you to the jelly working the booth, and steps out of line.]
Actually, I wish I could see you out there. I bet you're amazing.
no subject
[Eight you probably really shouldn't encourage this kind of behavior in her. But it's okay, that's part of what Pearl likes so much about you. She steps out of line too, giving a wave to the fans still in the crowd (resulting in a wave of cheers) before nodding in the direction of a little table set up along the edges of the festivities and starting to head that way.]
You should come do some regular turf with me and 'Rina sometime, then! She's no slouch either, you know. That girl is just as unstoppable on the field as she is on the stage or behind a monitor.
no subject
Pearl though? There's no one like her. She cranks it up to 11 and breaks off the knob. It's almost like she doesn't even think about it.]
I'd love that! Marina was already one of our best. I bet she's only gotten stronger training with you.
no subject
You got that right!
So are you gonna head straight out and start reppinā your team or do you wanna chill a bit? Me and āRina are in-between sets right now so Iāve got some time to kill. ā¦Also sheāll probably give me major flak if I donāt eat something while Iām down here. You hungry? My treat if so.
no subject
[Eight has developed a health-conscious attitude since arriving on the surface. He likes ranked and turf too much to not take care of his body.]
How about smoothies? Marina told me you've been hitting the fried food pretty hard lately.
[Yeah, sorry Pearl. Ya girl snitched.]
1/2
no subject
Uh yeah, cause itās delicious?! [An exaggerated shrug.] But sure, smoothies are good, too
[She pauses, looking around at the food trucks and other vendors that have taken up residence in the periphery of the square.]
You got a flavor in mind, or wanna come with and see the menu?
no subject
[He wants you around for a long time, if you won't fuss about your diet he will.]
Mmmm...something tropical. I think the truck on the corner had a spinach and mango drink.
